As we head into the last hours of 2024, allow us to wish you and your family a safe and Happy New Year! We want our last post of 2024 to be some of the highlights from our December to Remember that might not have made it into other posts! From concerts to dress up days, classroom events and parties, please enjoy the smiling faces of your amazing children.
It is truly our honor to teach each and every one of your students. We are beyond proud of the culture and community we have at ILIS. We can give much of that credit thanks to the families who offer us incredible support and the educators and support staff in this building who are dedicated professionals always striving to be their best for their students. We continue to think big and dream even bigger as we reach for new heights through educating your students. Our goal is to continue growing their hearts and minds outside the classroom through our counselors’ initiatives, highlighting good deeds with the Worthy Warrior program, and more. We look forward to a fantastic second semester at ILIS! (More photos can be found on our Facebook page!)
PS: Stuck on what to do tonight? Look back at the parent newsletter from December 20th! Our students gave lots of ideas on how to have a fantastic New Year’s Eve!

Congratulations, Gabe Caskey, Holiday Card Winner!

Ms. Hensley had a project that spanned over a few days as she taught her students about the way different cultures and religions celebrate holidays important to them this time of year! She thought of every little detail to make this engaging and fun, including giving printed airline tickets letting students and invited staff members know the destination! On this day, they were traveling to Israel. Students learned about Hanukkah- how it came to be, traditions of the holiday, and other culture and religious impacts that it brings to those of Jewish faith, as well as those who reside in Israel. Students even got to enjoy chocolate gelt! Thank you for taking us on this journey with you, Ms. Hensley! And to those who are celebrating, we wish you a Happy Hanukkah!

Ms. Harwood was very brave in class last week: She took the risk of a sugar high to give her kids an interactive and exciting lesson! She writes, “My class measured fractional amounts by using a recipe for holiday trail mix! They had to simplify fractions, find common denominators and equal measurements. So fun!”
This was a great lesson. Thanks for sharing Ms. Harwood!

Mr. Pendarvis’s 5th grade Science/Social Studies classes did an awesome project! He writes, “In our class we had a Recycling Project, where students had to be engineers and create a new item out of recycled materials. The goal is to use materials that could be reused to make something for their homes and to keep items out of the environment!”
Be sure to scroll through, there’s some really awesome projects in here! And of course, even more photos on Facebook. :) GREAT JOB, Warriors!

Congratulations, Harlow Kelsey, Holiday Card Winner!

Our PTO never ceases to amaze us. They literally dedicate hours and hours of their personal time to our staff and students to help make ILIS the most magical place to go to school. This last day before break is no exception! They bagged up 1200 (!!!) bags with a treat, custom bandana and water bottle stickers for our Warriors students! They also rolled, tagged and distributed 127 custom shirts to our staff! Much of our success this school year is thanks to all our PTO has done to support our school and initiatives. They've done it all, from managing the Lost & Found, to running the Boosterthon fundraiser, getting projects scheduled and completed with those funds raised, coming in for duty free lunch for our staff, and much, much more. Please take a moment to send your gratitude to this amazing group of volunteers as we head off into our Winter Break!

Congratulations to our Holiday Card winners! We will release each design separately over the next couple of weeks. We are proud of our students and amazed at their talent. Thank you art teachers for cultivating that talent. Winners, their art teacher, and principal all received blank cards to share. The LCSD Board of Trustees and Board attorney received a set of blank cards. Cards signed by Dr. Fitzpatrick were sent to our partners.
